Inauguration of SINTERSTAHL Corporation in Philipsburg/PA, USA

Only six months after its ground breaking ceremony, the SINTERSTAHL group opened its first manufacturing site in the USA in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania on October 27th, 2003. According to Dr. Michael Schwarzkopf, chairman of the executive board of the PLANSEE group, the new site increases PLANSEE’s physical presence in the USA to five manufacturing locations which employ a total of 500 people.

The 50,000 square foot (5,000 square meter) building and its associated machinery and equipment represents an approximate investment of $10 million US dollars. The chosen sight in the Moshannon Valley Business Park will manufacture powdered metal components for automotive shock absorbers and will employ approximately 70 skilled personnel.

This expansion into the NAFTA market was done in accordance with the wishes of SINTERSTAHL’s large international customer base, who desired SINTERSTAHL quality and service to accompany them to North America. SINTERSTAHL will also target additional North American product markets with future expansions.

The SINTERSTAHL group is one of the three business units of the PLANSEE group and currently operates one plant in Germany and two plants in Spain. These three facilities house approximately 800 employees and produce annual sales of $100 million Euros. SINTERSTAHL supplies the automotive industry OEMs and their first tier suppliers with products used in powertrain, chassis and racing applications.
